Rookies

The rookie experience in the Texas Iron Spikes is both demanding and rewarding. If selected to join the Iron Spikes, you join a group of young men who are dedicated to all aspects of the organization: service, spirit, and fraternal. This dedication is developed during your rookie semester.

The rookie semester is often regarded as one of the best in your life as an Iron Spike. When completed, you will realize the benefit of all the time you put in. Events are carefully planned in order to develop the feeling of brotherhood among rookie classes.

While your rookie semester is relatively time-consuming, there is still plenty of time to achieve your academic goals and become leaders in other organizations. Iron Spikes want members who are well rounded and involved in other campus organizations. Academic achievement is extremely important, and if you budget your time well, there is no reason why you cannot excel in school during your first semester as an Iron Spike.

Rookie classes are kept small, typically 12 to 16 young men each semester, in order to increase the feeling of brotherhood and preserve the selective reputation of the organization. Smaller numbers remind each member of their responsibility to the organization.

As Iron Spikes, we pride ourselves on our policy of no hazing. Since the inception of the organization this has been, and continues to be, an important aspect of the Rookie Semester. The Iron Spikes feel that becoming part of an elite organization should not include the degradation of any member at the hands of another.
